God Needs You to Persevere in Prayer

Now more than ever, God is needing people to persevere in prayer. He wants you to courageously persevere like the widow Jesus described in Luke chapter 18 who prayed without fainting and refused to lose heart or give up. That widow didn’t have a loving, heavenly Father to turn to like we do when we pray. She was dealing with a wicked judge who neither feared God nor respected man, yet she kept coming to him and saying:

Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? (verses 3-8)Continue reading

The Backward Glance

The Backward Glance

If a farmer is plowing his field and looks to the right or to the left or anywhere but straight ahead of him even while his feet are still following the plow, his furrow will go crooked. In the same way, when we look backwards at our past, our furrow goes crooked.

The Devil knows the peril that lies in that backward glance, so he’s constantly tries to persuade us to look back, engage our thoughts in ourselves, our sins, our worthlessness, and our failures. Looking at those things—the backward glance—causes our furrow to go crooked at once, and it greatly hinders our straight path of walking with the Lord.

I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead…. –Phil. 3:13
